CRETE

Jeremy moved to Crete and lived around Chania. Small markets and local shops brought jewellery, stones, crystals and opals into view. Opals held his attention in particular, and he investigated the possibility of trading stones.

The intended business did not emerge. Some stones later did not appear to have the authenticity or quality first assumed. No seller needs to become a villain for the direction to have failed.

What remained was an aesthetic interest in natural, irregular and found material—and, soon after, an actual found object.
